Creating Space For Readiness

May 01, 2025

Every leader I speak with is craving space. Not physical space—but mental space, margin, breathing room. Space that clarifies thinking, steadies decision-making, and quietly strengthens teams.

Yet, creating space can feel like just one more thing to squeeze into an already overflowing schedule.

Real readiness is never rushed.
It grows through small, deliberate shifts, not dramatic upheavals.

Tomorrow, I’ll be flying to Queenstown for the women’s retreat I host each year.

There is something about the stillness of the lake and the strength of the mountains that creates the kind of space no meeting room ever could.
Clarity catches up with us when we let it.

The environment does powerful work. So do the small, deliberate shifts we choose to protect.

  • A few minutes to breathe between meetings.
  • A moment to pause before responding.
  • Space protected for strategic thought.

Each small shift, slight on its own, builds into leadership readiness over time.
These shifts steady us first. They also shape the signals our teams are reading every day.

Where could you create protected space in your day, or in the day of your team?
What one shift could become a marker of clarity and calm for those around you?
How might one small shift prepare you and your team for what comes next?

Culture and leadership shape capacity.
Capacity shapes what is possible.

Even one protected breath can change what you carry into the next conversation.

If you would like to explore how these shifts build leadership capacity, join me live for the Leadershift Masterclass on 30 May.

Thanks for exploring with me,

Meredith

PS If you'd like to join me in Queenstown in 2026 to feel clear, calm and connected, registrations for my Leading Women's Retreat are now open - spaces are limited.

Culture can take you further than Strategy can imagine.

Why Most Culture Change Fails
Ā  Most culture change efforts are designed to fail. What if the approach guarantees it? Leaders announce a culture shift, a program gets designed, workshops roll out, and posters go up. The posters have a longer half life than the commitment. Twelve months later the organisation is roughly where it started, except now people are cynical about culture change too. They have seen this before. The...
The Workplace Renaissance
I've been thinking about the disruption the Renaissance emerged from. In the early 1400s, Europe was reeling. A pandemic that had reshaped the labour market within living memory. Institutions splitting into competing factions. Economic structures collapsing. A new technology about to change who controlled knowledge. Sound familiar? The people in charge were frightened, and frightened people de...
What the Medici knew (a letter from Florence)
Ā  Hello from Florence. Following a conference in Slovenia, I'm taking the opportunity to do one of the things I love most in one of the parts of the world I love most. Wandering. Wondering. Sitting in front of something five hundred years old and let my mind go quiet for an hour. I have to confess something. The Renaissance has had me in its grip since I was at school. I read The Prince as a t...
