Culture is a shared experience, but it is not experienced evenly.

I help leaders shift culture

Culture is something we all share, but it’s not experienced the same way by everyone. Leaders often see a polished version of their organisation’s culture—one that feels aligned and cohesive. However, for those on the front lines or in different roles, the experience can look and feel very different.

Understanding this unevenness is critical for leaders. While culture might feel seamless at the top, the day-to-day realities for teams might reveal gaps or disconnects. This is why it’s essential for leaders to step outside their vantage point and truly listen to the experiences of their people.

Ask yourself:

  • How does the culture you experience compare to what your team experiences?
  • Are there discrepancies between what’s intended and what’s actually felt by people across the organisation?
  • What steps can you take to better understand the shared experience of your culture?

By recognising these differences, leaders can build a more connected, inclusive, and effective culture—one that works for everyone, not just a select few.
