What Matters

I've been reflecting on what matters, lessons learned, practices to experiment with and ideas worth exploring.

Microdosing Joy

When you’re tired but busy, try microdosing joy.

Look for opportunities to microdose on things that lift your mood and energy.

1. Write a list of things that make you happy eg buying flowers for yourself or someone else or reading a book in the sunshine.

2. Next to each item on the list, note how long each takes eg 5 mins to dance to your favourite Beyonce song, 1 hour for coffee with a friend or 30 mins for a walk in the park with your puppy.

3. Look for things in your diary you could stop doing or remove - permanently or just temporarily until you’ve bounced back.

When you're the only one in the room

When you’re the only one in the room, something happens.

Yes, you relax sometimes and forget for a while, especially when you know and like the others in the room.

Still.

You’re the only one in the room.

It’s hard to be unaffected.

It’s important not to be ineffective or to waste the opportunity.

It’s exhausting bearing the weight of representation and expectation.

Some topics pass by or are easy to contribute to. Others are fraught. Your question, or your answer, may be weighted or seen as representative, because you’re the only one in the room.

You may...

If you aren’t Changing it, you’re Choosing it

You don’t need to set a goal to get unfit!

Reflecting on the week (we made it!) and a couple of habits that have crept back in...

I believe that if you aren’t changing it, you’re choosing it.

This weekend it’s time to get back on the path. I’m choosing positive, healthy habits.

What are you choosing to change?

Quiet

If you tend to the more introverted side of things, you know how exhausting it can be to operate in a world often designed by, and for, those more extroverted.

I love working with quiet leaders and helping them find their quiet power... helping them embrace their quiet power... learning to leverage their quiet strength... it would have to be one of my favourite coaching and mentoring journeys is the blossoming of a wonderfully quiet person into a proud, confident quiet person.

Does this sound like you?

Know your Worth

There’s an infectious confidence when you know what you’re worth.

You don’t need to verbalise it because you project it by the way you carry yourself.

Invest in you, know what you’re worth and what value you bring.

Forget the failure, learn the lesson

We succeed, we grow. We fail, we grow.

When we don’t know, we grow.  If we let ourselves...

Too often, success and failure don’t lead to growth. Growth mindset has become a bit of a buzzword but at the heart, it is choosing to grow when you hit adversity or when you land a win.

I often say

Forget the failure, learn the lesson

Choose a growth mindset. Choose to learn and grow.

Who is talking for you when you’re not in the room?

Coaching a client today on their on visibility and profile.

A key question - Who is talking for you when you’re not in the room?

Talent and career impacting decisions in organisations are often made when you’re not in the room.

How can you let your leader know what you want/don’t want? Who else in the room knows you and what you can do?

Too often I’ve seen people invest heavily in a sponsor relationship only to have that sponsor leave the organisation, and they are left without an advocate.

I believe you need at least three people on your leadership team who...

Choices

You may have grown, changed, evolved and be more capable than you were before... yet you choose to hold on to limiting beliefs that are no longer useful, relevant or real.

These beliefs stop you from trying, doing and being.

These beliefs stop you from becoming.

Choose what you hold on to, choose what stories you tell yourself. You can choose.
